Nocturnal Hunter
The good thing with improving camera technology is that shooting is no longer as limited by dwindling light levels and you can finally record certain traits you wouldn't usually see. This is the wild urban red fox cub 'One Sock' (due to his single white back paw) taken at 21:00 in the evening, and his pupils are notably larger to enable him to hunt successfully in the low light of an urban evening (note that foxes have vertical slitted pupils (like cats) instead of the round design of dogs and humans!). Foxes have amazing visual acuity up to 90m in just starlight and can actually see the flicker in our own houselights that we can't detect! Whilst their colour vision is poorer than ours (to give better low-light vision), they still see slightly towards the blue end of the spectrum instead of the greeny-yellow vision we have.
I wonder what this picture would look like to a fox?
