June is a busy time for puffin families as they rush to bring up their chicks (or pufflings). Adults will constantly flick back and forth to and from the burrow to provide enough food for the developing youngster. The most common, and most favoured, food is the sand eel (which is actually not one species, but a group of fish usually in the genus Hyperoplus). These little things provide over 500 calories per fish - the same as a chocolate bar!
